I started this project in 2016 during my Emerency Medicine Enhanced Skills training at University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. I wanted a quick reference focused on important emergency department presentations, particularly for rapid access to drug doses and therapeutic considerations. There are so many great apps available, but I prefer a physical reference tool - call me old fashioned!
I liked the old version of the Paucis Verbis cards from Aliem (now hosted online at AliemCards.com), but I found them more useful for studying than as a point-of-care reference.
I couldn't find anything quite right. So I created a tool that works for me. I initially shared the cards within my residency program, but started to hear from learners and staff MDs across Canada and beyond when the cards were shared by word of mouth. That is what prompted me to create this website.
The cards are now provided to incoming Emergency Medicine residents at University of Calgary and are freely available on this website.
I am an emergency physician working in Calgary, Alberta. I love teaching, and my clinical interests include harm reduction for frequent users of emergency department services.
I've always learned best by creating. Prior to medical school, I worked as a Technical Writer and was responsible for developing print and digital educational materials for medical staff. This background has evolved into a unique niche interest in creating and refining clinical and medical educational tools. I have also been involved in curriculum development for the Calgary CCPF(EM) program, particularly practice oral exam development.
